Good day, i downloaded free model: https://www.thepixellab.net/free-c4d-3d ... g-platform

And faced a big problem with working with it in octane:
  • long generating time
  • occasionally freezes

short video (sorry for my english): https://yadi.sk/i/DpdfiJ8O33T2b8

hi, Arleksey,

let me try to explain what happens, but before starting, what CPU You have at the moment on Your machine? is it at least fast quadcore? (with anything less You'll have issues, as this process of uploading, voxelisation, preparing scene in other words is CPU limited)
It seems that Your model have a lot of parts & materials..-this blows up the time for loading (at least that's the problem with on other host apps). Could You try (for a test) to merge Your entire model & see how fast it loads? Then throw single OctaneRender material & try again..

but You might say: it's not what I want. In this case, try to combine different small objects having the same material into one mesh - try to clean the model as well. If it was downloaded from internet & possibly exported from other CAD application You might find some mess inside.

Another thing to keep in mind (think You mentioned something about materials), are those not Octane? if so then conversion would take time as well & You should not be surprised for that. Let us know how it goes & we can try to help You out. Personally I'm not c4d user, but Your described "problems" exist on other packages as well & those could be solved by mentioned moves

Please delete all materials and try again. Why do you use C4D materials? So you're using C4D shaders. It's not safe everytime. Especially some types as layer/etc... Also all C4D shaders need to be rendered images before render session. And this can take pretty long time depends to your content.

@glimpse

i use i7-3930k processor with 32gb ram. The same issue with i7-4770.

Merging to smaller number of meshes improves situtation a lot: ~84 000 ms -> 15 734 ms. That a great advice, thank you!

The same stuff i do when trying to use deformers in cinema 4d on complex models. For example bend mountain or home . After converting to a static mesh octane raise speed in transfering scene.

But in motion design usually we need a dynamic structure.

becouse octane itself doesn`t have same shaders (as c4d can provide) and blending modes for mixing, that`s why in c4d we have to use native shaders that are transfering to octane

glimpse solved the main problem: dynamic structure is transfering much longer than converted mesh

for example redshift export this scene almost instantly with all c4d shaders
