Hi everyone,

Refractive Software LTD is proud to announce the availability of the intermediate octanelive platform testing release. (aka pre-2.3)
This release is for PC's running MS Windows.

Due to the many changes we will have to supply mac and linux versions at a later time next week.

Unfortunately we did not get cuda 3.1 working in time for the release, nor the new built-in supersampling.
This build is, just like 2.2, built against cuda 3.0, so it requires no changes to the system with regards to drivers etc…

Although the supersampling controls are present, the filter is not finished yet, so it's of no use currently to use it.
we recommend rendering large format and downscaling manually for now as before.

We're also aware that some resolution choice give wrapping/tearing effect.

Note that this release is the first octane live platform build, and we have not fully finished the server backend.
There is currently no redundancy, only one server is active, so there might be outages while we work on it.

This release is therefore NOT recommended to be used for any professional applications where time is crucial,
use at your own risk.

Pleas note also this version will need you to enter your OctaneLive account and password. These can be found as explained here:

http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... =24&t=3095

We recommend professional users to use the 2.2b version for now.

New Features since beta2.2

Code: Select all

- support for fermi 2.1 architectures (Nvidia GTX460 series) at full speed.
This is untested, and as we use cuda 3.0, it's not certain this will work, so please test and report if you have a GTX460 card.

- material, emission and textures can be made as macro's with custom input pin nodes for custom parameters
- storage and loading of macros to .ocm file or directly in the shared octane live macro database. (this database is real-time for everyone)
- area lights. Diffuse materials can become blackbody or textured mesh emitters.
- outliner pane for easy scene overview/selection and octanelive db navigation
- macros from the liveDB pane can be directly dropped on the nodegraph editor, on the viewport (replacing the material under the cursor) or in the node inspector
- new persistent preferences panel with 4 tabs, stored in your online profile. (note that the mousewheel actions don't work yet in the controls settings)
- last used OCS files for quick start/loading of previous projects
- various new nodes including full coordinate transforms
- drag and drop live DB macros to render viewport, nodestack editor and nodegraph editor as nodes.
