Stepping in Octane, Here are my GPU questions.

Hey,
So I'm stepping in GPU rendering for the first time and the questions just won't stop coming.
I'm going for a single 980ti, but I'm not sure why there is NO ONE on internet that has a single 980ti.
The question is, Is it trully enough speed-wise?

I can't get another 980ti since I'm building a PC so my budget doesn't allow that, at least for now.
I've heard about getting one GPU for rendering and one for other tasks. Does this mean that while rendering, the PC becomes laggy?
If yes, do you think it's absolutely required and it gets annoying? Or is it something that's just recommended and can be tolerated?

I'm pretty sure that I'll be getting another GPU some other time. But that may be months or a year later.

And one more question, If I mix 2 different generation cards, like a 980ti and a 1060, would there be any problems? Would the speed of the 1060 one be wasted or something? And is octane supporting it yet?

I have a single GTX980Ti. But since I'm having trouble purchasing a license, there is not much help I can give you at the moment. I scored about 157 Points in the Octane Benchmark.
And I also used a GTX 970 alongside my 980Ti (until I sold the 970) and I had no issues whatsoever. At least with the Octane demo version for Cinema4D.

Single gtx980ti is still fine but it will be stressed when your scenes goes complex and heavy on gpu usages. And your viewport+gui will be less responsive. Best idea is to test your scenes by demo version. So you know that.
There is some priority settings to use less gpu power for rendering. This will help a bit. But always better to have 2 or more gpu for complex scenes. Sometimes i'm disabling monitoring gpu while rendering and i can work very responsive.

So what you're saying is, if I put something to render ( let's say it's a complex scene ) and I just leave the computer to render, there wouldn't be a problem with the render? In other words, wouldn't the computer just crash because of the stress?
And like I said, I'm sure I'm going to get another gpu another time but not just yet. Do you have any idea if a Pascal ( GTX 1070 ) card would work alongside with this card?

- Renderer will not crash for stress if GPU is not defected. But if you use ONE card you have accept that other software and OS will use VRAM also. And low VRAM will cause crashes on rendering progress.
- 1070 should be fine with your card. I see that people use those.

I see. Seems like I may go for two 1070s, since I can get 1024 more cuda cores and 8gb VRam. I thought Octane isn't supporting Pascal cards yet so that's why I wanted to get a 980ti at first.

What do you think about this build? Would two 1070s be nice?

I haven't tested but as i can see they are fine at a proper price. Also you'll have a room for future improvements on speed.
