Hello
i just put together completely new computer with the exception of some HDD/SSD drives i kept from my previous rig.
I installed Octane and seems to be working just fine, although i expected slightly better speed based on what i read, my main concern now however are the paths to the textures and stuff regarding my existing Octane scenes i created in previous computer. When i try to open OCS file now, it asks me to manually set the path to every texture used in the scene - when its like 50 or so of them, thats kinda annoying. Not to mention, while i have all of them pretty much in one big folder called LIBRARY, i this folder is divided into many subfolders, i dont know all the textures by the name and in which subfolder are they stored... In other words linking all the textures back is pretty much impossible task.
Is there any way to do this automatically? Just link the path to the disk where the LIBRARY folder resides (its different now than before, i guess thats main part of the problem), but let the app to find the paths to all the needed data within it by itself? Hope i made myself clear.
Thanks
Octane and external data paths

Have you tried to save and open the scene as orbx?

So try to do this - repair your scene (or open in old location) and save it as orbx and then move it wherever you want to open it without any problems.Timmaigh! wrote:Nope, i always use OCS, have no experience with ORBX so far.

Well, repairing it manually is exactly what i am trying to avoid and opening it in the old location is not an option anymore, as it would require to move my disk back into the old computer, which i am not going to do.smicha wrote:So try to do this - repair your scene (or open in old location) and save it as orbx and then move it wherever you want to open it without any problems.Timmaigh! wrote:Nope, i always use OCS, have no experience with ORBX so far.
Is there anything else i can do?

Can you rename drive letter to the same as older one and create exactly same folder path for the project and paste it in?

OCS files are text files (xml),
so you can edit them in a text editor.
First look for one file texture name in the first OCS, notice how the path should be modified to work,
then apply this change automatically for all file-pathes in each ocs with a simple search and replace : original path part to replace to new path begining
or do what Smicha say for drive letter

Thank to both of you.
I am not sure i can juggle with drive letters now - in my older computer i had the Library folder with all the textures on my Storage HDD with letter "E" - now i have it on SSD with letter "D". However, that storage HDD is not "E" anymore, now its SSD with games
. Just installed Steam there yesterday. I could technically swap the "D" and "E", but i am afraid it would break Steam. That said, this would probably be the easiest solution.
The other option, messing with OCS with text editor, i am on it right now! Hopefully it will help. If i understand it correctly, all the paths starting with E:\Library etc... changed to D:\Library should do the trick?

Also in the future, if you use always the same folder structure for your projects,
maybe better to enable in preference "use relative path" then you won't have this problem changing of worstation.

Well, it looks like this within OCS:
<attr name='filename' type='11'>..\..\..\..\LIBRARY\Textures\Various\Tapety\background_bumps_light_86951_2560x1080.jpg</attr>
<pin name='power'>
there is no drive letter specified, so i am not sure how am i change the path now, since thats pretty much the only difference between now and before.
What about that relative path? Where do i change that?
