is their anyway to update the obj without having to create another node and delete the old one, then having to reset up materials?

so essentially any changes made in the previous modeling program and the exported, i can just update it in octane and not have to remake the entire setup

my work flow is generally procedural and i dont finish a scene 100% before exportation.

just relink the mesh. it's a button at the end of the mesh node in the node inspector panel on the right.
it will reload a different OBJ, keeping your materials intact and linked by material name.

yes, select the obj in the graph editor, and go all away down in the node inspector, and you will see a small icon and the location of the obj file, just click the icon and reselect the updated obj file.

i haven't tried this, but what if you change a material name or ID? Will it brake the other materials that have the same corresponding MTL info?

It did when I tried. Maybe you might be luckier ;)
