I am not having any luck at all getting the focus point to work in Live View when using DOF. What is the best way to accomplish this, assuming it's me and not a bug? I would think that once the focal point is established, I could then dial in the focal length settings, but I seem to be going backwards. Any tips?

It's a bit frustating to see BUG word on every posts for me as developer.
1-DISABLE AUTO FOCUS
2-SET FOCAL DISTANCE=0
and
3-LINK any objects in camera properties.

Hi AOktar, that is why I posed my question as likely me. I did not assume it is a bug :) . Thanks for your reply, trying this now...

Sadly, I am not getting what I expect :(

I have an added complication as I am simulating an anamorphic lens, using some planes that are distorted by wrap deformers placed in front of the camera. The effect is very convincing, but it may be throwing off the focus point mechanism (or not, I have no idea at this point.)

I have tried to use a null for focusing, by adding it as a focus object in the Camera Object tab in the Attributes panel, and adjusting to your recommendations, but that doesn't work.
I have tried using the Focus tool in Live View, but that doesn't work.
I have the distance from the camera to my focus point using a guide object (it's length being the distance) but I am not sure where I would enter that value in the UI. The docs are very thin in regard to the feature, and even the live view UI shots are well out of date.

I apologize if this seems trivial, and hopefully I am just missing something here. I just want my object of interest to be in focus (roughly 1000 cm from camera) while the foreground and background are defocused....

Thanks.

See sample scene. Play with null object's position. Say me if it's still not working as expected.

Hi Aoktar,

thank you for your scene. Your scene is clearly working as I would expect. In fact, this is the setup that I have in my scene, which is not working. I will reload my scene and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks again!

Just send me related part of your scene. No need a full scene.

Thank you, Aoktar. Here is the scene.

Note: You may need to add a specular material with the index set to 2.5 to the lens objects.

Huh!
I see what you're trying to do. But focal point still works correct as on my scene.
Here there's a different problem. You have two object in front of camera and rays refracting from these. This is not same issue as you said. And this is about renderer calculations and beyond of my knowledge.

Yes, my anamorphic lens is clearly the issue here, sadly. But it is necessary in order to get my scene to conform to my reference, as there are not yet any controls to distort the image in this manner as offered by Octane. If the distortion slider allowed for negative numbers, that might do it, though I am not positive about that...
