AO vs Direct Problem

Hi.

I know that AO does not get diffuse bleeding of colors unlike direct light. But if you look at the picture on the ceiling AO does not even get direct light on a ceiling. it is not a bounce light it is a direct light from light bulb. Why cannot AO have this direct light?
