hi,

i installed the xparticles update for r18 a few minutes ago and tested the caching. which seemd to work.
i then tried octane. i got permanent crashes, the last one though, gave me a report, after showing a crash-message pointing to the octane-plug.

it was a simple testscene (which obiously has not been saved while generating the crash report), xp-system with an emitter, turbulance modeifier and a cache object, which cached this simple emitting.
an octane object tag on the emitter, particles feature set set to spheres.
live viewer opened scrubbing through time-line: frame 75 (or any other), octane "send again" button -> great, scrub to frame 20 (or any other), octane "send again" button -> great, scrub to frame 35 (or any other), octane "send again" button -> crash with report.

here's the files that have been written:

I think you should send report to XP guys. It seems like ruined for our connection. I see that's producing wrong results when you scrub and crash on PV.

ok, will do.

i had forgotten to mention, that i had no crashes when i rendered to picture viewer. the process described above only happened with the live viewer.
but on the other hand, i tried it only once or twice with the picture viewer, and very often with the live viewer, so i wouldn't know for sure.

I think there is a problem on this build. I'm not sure we need a fix for that or they should fix. But if we fix that we can broke results for Older XP versions. Just estimating now. Don't have time to check deeper now.

i see.
would you mind me quoting you on that over there?
since i myself am not too much into these things, i'd be just the messanger, but this info you give seems to be important for the xp-people, to not have them know?

They released this SP today and problems came up suddenly. I can't do it without detect the exact problem. It will take some time and need to hear some other feedbacks about this.

meanwhile i received a reply in the xp octane-thread:

"Regrettably Otoy wouldn't provide us with NFR licences to test Octane with XP. Most other vendors of render engines have done so and we've naturally reciprocated. We do have one staff member with a purchased licence for Octane but we'll have to wait until he's able to do some testing.

We have checked the SDK library we make available and it should work fine in the updated version. We know it works with Arnold, for example.

Steve"

this, i guess, leaves me as a user between two chairs - waiting for the one side to have the one license-holder test the xp-patch and for the other side to receive more than just 1 user report.
well...

I don't remember any request about that in one year period or more. My advice to you to work with previous version of XP until hear that's fine anymore.
