Is it possible to use the current version at the 1080 gpu normally?

Yes, the current plugin version should work with the Pascal GPUs without problems. The performance in these GPUs is not fine tuned yet, but Octane works.

needs to be Octane 3 version... Octane 2 does not support Pascal

Yes, of course. Only the latest builds of Octane 3 support the Pascal GPUs. Octane 2.x doesn't support them.
