Hey Folks,

iam working on a scene that includes some Smoke.

I already noticed the Default Cloud using the Volume Object gives other results than TFD or a .vdb file, using the Generator i get pixelated artifacts. Pretty new to rendering voxels so maybe i messed up something, heres a screenshot of the Problem, and my Volume Settings.

Is anyone familiar with this? Is my box of smoke maybe to big? How do i get it smoother?

Rendering with Octane for C4D v 3.00 R1.1

Any Help would be really appreciated.

Voxel=3d pixel.
Please first check my volume object samples for clouds.

Hey aoktar,

thanks for the reply. sorry if i bother you with this, iam clearly missing some fundamentals here.
I guess theres no simple answer on how to get a smoother result, or increase the voxels resolution?

do you mean the sample scenes "volume-anime-noise" ? i somehow cant open those, Corrupted file. All the others i can open, but i didnt learn anything from them. Thanks for your time again, i cant get an answer to stuff like this elsewhere.

It's simply as pixels on an image. So same logic.
I don't think that's different on vdb. Should be same at same resolution. But only difference is VDB is much better optimised for storing voxels.

Here is wip version of new manual: https://render.otoy.com/plugindownloads ... l-wip1.chm
find volume object for details.

Hey again,

thanks for the link, the manual helped me alot and i got better results now adjusting the multiplier. Iam guessing when using TFD/.vdb these parameters are already adjusted to the right scale.

Am i right that the bigger my cloud is, the better my settings need to be? I only get the Results i want if i go for 1/10 in Size/Multiplier, my Rig somehow manages that.

Atm propably you need more sampling in volume. But be aware that many voxels will required more memory. You can easily fall to out-of-memory. Also check again warnings from manual. In this point, direct vdb loading may be more memory optimised.
