I'm coming to the group for some help. Last night, while I was working on a client project, I created a powder coat material in Substance Designer. I created 5 8K images that were 16 bit. They were diffuse, specular, roughness, normal, and displacement. Plus I had a HDR in the scene. (so 6 total floating point images in the scene)
I found out that this is really bad for octane. Of course my computer crashed hard. haha. Completely crashed the display drivers, shutdown the computer, and Windows 10 said that it was blocking Cinema 4D from using graphics hardware.
Well I reinstalled Cinema 4D, Octane (Versions 3.02-R1) and now I can't see a preview of any new materials that I create. They will render, but this is still annoying.
After some research it looks like I may have to reinstall Windows 10. I'm hoping it won't come to that point but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem? If not, I hope this post can be a warning to others who are trying to do similar things. Thank you!
Hard Crash With 8K Textures in C4D Octane Ver 3.02-R1

can you please post some technical details. Log outputs, image format you used. I can't see anythings to make an estimation. Do you set a tdr delay?
can you see previews on other cases?

Hey Aoktar! Thank you for your reply!
The image format was 16 bit PNGs. No TDR delay on this workstation. I can see material previews on the saved scene file as the screen shot shows. But creating new octane shaders, I can't see a proper update with textures. The powder coat that is selected in the screen shot should be black with a simple 4k jpeg image in the diffuse channel.
I am testing the scene now to see if it will perform and render correctly.

Okay well it looks like it is crashing with a 4k Displacement texture. Let me try and post something from the log.

Well it looks like I'm running out of VRAM to displace this geometry. That makes sense for the render to fail, but I'm still curious why I have lost the ability to see a material preview of an image?
Try without displacement. It can be fragile. and render failures is not up to plugins. But if you can send a scene we can check. Last one big png files are extremely slow to load.

Could be this latest version?
My coworker just had the same problem. No material preview with a .png.
He has the exact same build and same version of octane and C4D.
We both are now running the NVIDIA 365.19 driver

Okay without the displacement we are good!
The only thing is the material preview not showing any type of image format. Thank you for taking the time to help!
