Well,

One license = one machine.
You activate by sending us the machine ID.

You can activate a license 3 times, but not all at once, there has to be a period in between.
After that, we will decide about your application on a personal basis.

I switched machines last week because of a hardware failure (system drive died). I thought that if I had to rebuild it might as well be a better machine more suited to Octane.

When I asked for a license I was given the one for the old machine and told that I can't have one for the new machine because I had just been given the old license and I had to wait until 2.3 comes out so I can manage my own license. I was also told about the piracy issues Reactive Software are dealing with and that my old key should still work with my old PC if I rebuild it rather than use the new computer I just spent $6000 on.

As a kiwi graphics software developer living less than 20mins drive from Reactive Software I have been rooting for them to be successful.
This whole piracy issue is going to cost Reactive Software legitimate customers.

Hi,

Every day i get mails from people, sometimes even people asking for 3 different keys in one day, and a lot of people mailing and asking for a license posing as a customer.
I lose about 30% of my time on this every day.

I made rules, being one license key can be activated, and reactivated with a period of one month in between, up to 3x, without questions asked.
Rules are rules and need to be implemented identically for everyone.

The reason for this is the we cannot revoke old licenses.
If we give people new keys for a second machine, then they have 2 licenses if the old machine still exists. (which in most cases probably does)

I know this is annoying, not just for you, but it's very annoying for me too to have to deal with this every day. 7/7, sundays included.
As of 2.3 we will have a new system which will allow you to activate a license on a machine, work, deactivate it, activate it on another machine, etc...

Yours,

Hi,
I agree with this rule

"As of 2.3 we will have a new system which will allow you to activate a license on a machine, work, deactivate it, activate it on another machine, etc..."

Thank, nipparnlert

Still confused. Just purchased Octane but not sure if I should install it or not. I haven't yet purchased the new PC I intend using Octane on. Does this mean I need to wait before installing? Should I wait for 2.3 to be released so I can jump from laptop to PC and back?

Also - does a machine id change if graphics cards are added/swapped?

Ta

machine ID's don't change when you change GPU hardware...
