I decided to experiment today with using actual render passes to comp an image instead of using only the beauty pass.

I'm using V2.23 (I had trouble with later versions of the plugin, the PNGs were saving all crazy looking)

-I save all the passes as .png RGB48bit
-I load them as a stack in photoshop using built-in script
-I Run the octane plugin that organizes the layers (really just makes them all linear (add)

My final file requires a gamma correction of about .8 to bring the passes back to how the beauty pass looks. I can deal with that, but even then it's not quite right. The beauty pass is much cleaner (noise wise) than the combined passes. Why is that?

Is there something wrong with my process here?
Does highlight compression carry through with the passes or only affect the beauty pass?

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Sorry for not answering before. Could you find out what the issue was or found a workaround for it?

If there's an issue with the composting extension we'd like it to be dealt with.

Thank you.
