So I have a question regarding scenes exported from 3ds max to Octane stand alone. This is not a 3ds max question per se. So after I've exported my scene and dragged it into octane, I can click on the alembic geometry node to expose it's parameters, one of these is detect instances using checksums. I have found very little documentation on what this does but if I were to hazard a guess it would allow objects that share the same geometry and shaders to be treated as instances rather than discrete blocks of geometry. However when I go to check this after I have exported a large scene containing many hi poly instances, I am seeing no performance gain. Am I approaching this the wrong way or perhaps misunderstanding the option?
All the best,

Alembic Instances
For scenes exported from Octane plug-ins it makes no difference. In these files instances are always handled correctly.
This is meant to correctly load files exported with the native exporters of some 3D applications using old Alembic versions.
