Hello. I have the Standalone student version, which limits me to only version 1.2. I tried to test out octane but all I got was the little red message below the viewer saying "no CUDA GPUs". I have done a bit of searching and people said I had to go look in the Preferences. I have done that, and it said my CUDA Driver version is 7.50, I have a GTX 745 with compute model 5.0. I have no idea why it's not working, as Octane Render works when I use the demo version, but not the Student version. :(

Hi guyhoka,
unfortunately v1.2 is too old and your GPU is too new for it :(
If I remember well, it works only with compute model 2.1 and below.
This is a big limitation, so the student license is going to be discontinued and it will be substituted by the new subscription version in the next future:

Hmm. So I would have to purchase the $9.99 in a week (when Octane 3.0 launches)? But what would it include... I also read on the slides that it would have render credits? So rendering would be limited perhaps? Would it include the standalone + the plugins for software such as C4D, 3ds Max etc. ? Please answer!

Hi guyhoka,
OctaneRender is going to evolve in a series of products:
next week is going to arrive OctaneRender v3.0 as a major update, at the same time is going to arrive the new OctaneRender Cloud, ORC, system with monthly fee and credits. I was talking about a different option that is going to arrive later on this year called OctaneEngine. In short, it will offer the same functionality of OctaneRender standalone but with a monthly fee subscription based on how many GPUs you want to use. Another particular aspect of OctaneEngine is that it doesn't need a GPU on the master to start and it can use any GPU in the Lan.
There will be more info in the future, for now you can have a look at the Otoy's GTC presentation article:
