I went with blender plugin. But am considering dropping SU entirely, if v3 doesn't pan out.

Good fo you
Even if v3 will be realeased , there is absolutely no reason to assume that it wold be any good , otoy was not able to fix basic features in v2 , like pack the scene to be used on other computers , or change material from diffuse to glossy, not to mention the constant crashes and skatter integration , they were not even able to talk to us on the forum, all i heard from them , was "we are on it " or "next month" . I'am absolutely sure that octane for sketchup will never be a reliable tool for rendering. i am just sorry that i lost so much time on this plugin ...

As a beta tester I feel the same. How Otoy has handled this is extremely disappointing.

Absolutely agree.

I do have some promising info about skatter + sketchUp + Octane Standalone... Scatter data produced within Skatter, then exported via ORBX plays really well with Octane standalone. Can edit the text data Skatter produces. While I asked Thomas about CSV export, he says there isn't any plans for this now. Everything works with standalone, and well. I'll be upgrading it at the very least.

This is exactly what I've been saying for very long time - SU plugin serves only as a geometry exporter to the standalone. Nothing else. Unless it has a full functionality of the standalone with nodal approach it is completely useless. And i don't even count on any promises on its development. This went too far as for trust. I simply love Sketchup and nothing will change it ;) Will Otoy deliver great SU plugin - fine; otherwise - I don't give a f*#k! Sorry guys I spent more time on this forum (do you remember the great TIG) and doing my best.

absolutely agree with SMICHA, I use the plugin only for proxies, I even use the plugin TIG, because it is unmanageable with nodegraph.

Agree with you Smicha , but for me standalone is not a solution , once you import something in it is final , you can't really manipulate geometry , i prefer to make the geometry in sketchup , import in 3ds max , and than use the tons of libraries available for 3ds max for anturaj , if something changes in the project , and a i have to make a new presentation , i can change the geometry from max or from sketchup and reimport just that part back in 3ds max , i can make animation directly from max , i really do not need somethingelse, i wold prefer to use only sketchup and octane plugin but it's really poorly made.
For me both the standalone and the sketchup plugin are unusable .

I do it similar but in Modo: I create base geometry in SU, use exporter, and open each obj in modo and modify it. When I save it in Modo and refresh in the standalone all changes are visible instantly.

For what it is worth, and speaking on behalf of OTOY after reading through this thread again, I sincerely apologize for the lack of communication from the lead plugin developer on this forum. It's not acceptable, no matter how busy the engineer may be. We are going to have a review internally and are committed to getting this sorted out ASAP.

Those that know me, can attest this is a pretty rare position for me to take. But to fix this problem we need to own it first.

My apologies again to all of you. You deserve the best from us, including up to date and continuous communication and in this case we haven't done that. We will.
