I've been having trouble for months solving this issue.

I'm currently using 3ds Max plugin version 2.23.2 - 1.9
Trying to upgrade to 2.23.2 - 2.0 or 2.x - 2.x the materials do not work, all diffuse slots revert to gray, etc.

I saw there is a 2 stage converter, i installed it but failed to exactly see how to use it step-by-step.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or give some step-by-step advise?

Hi,

An extensive code refactoring between 1.9 and 2.0 caused major changes in how material data was handled. Conversion is possible, though your success will depend on the complexity of the scene.

A user-made two-stage converter has been provided that handles most conversion issues. An official, universal one-click solution is currently in progress - there are some edge cases that need to be resolved (V Ray-converted scenes, texture files stored on networked servers/ folders in non-English characters).

You can find the user created solution here: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=50645. If this doesn't work for you, I can provide you with a pre-release version application for the one-click version.
