Hello together,

I'm completely new here and apologize in advance in case this question has been asked before. I couldn't find anything about it at a first glance...

I'm a hobbyist 3D tinkerer (mostly DAZ Studio), don't make a single dime with my creations, rarely, if at all, make them public. As such the license prices for the standalone and the plugins are way (talking about decimal powers) too high. I cannot by the life of me afford them but still would really love to be able to use the fastest renderer currently available.

I know there is a students license which I already have. Don't want to sound ungrateful, but as you probably know it's a pretty outdated standlone version. The plugins, as it seems, are not available for students and hobbyists like me.

I'm curious. From the point of view of a hobbyist without a company in the background: why is Octane Render so expensive? Why is it kept too expensive for people like me? Is it on purpose? Are we hobbyists not wanted as customers? Or are we just forgotten about?

Cheers!

We're hoping to announced new EDU options and licenses at GTC2016 in about 5 weeks.

Hi,

I'm in a similar situation to the OP except have no access to educational licensing.
I have tried the demo and like it a lot.
However for personal use it just costs too much for me and I think a lot of users like me to buy.
Any chance you guys can look at doing a non commercial license.
thanks,

Yes - we'd like to have this in place when we get out of beta.

Even for free by any chance? That'd be absolutely awesome!

$19 month for full octane

Or

$9.99 for 2x GPUS

See other thread for more details

Free will be an option in Octane VR but only for a window each year.

Excuse me, but... what other thread?

Aside from that, 19$/month sounds great! A lot more affordable for hobbyists like me.
