I understand that the C4D plugin and the standalone version support separate background and environment maps. It would be excellent if we can we get this functionality in the Max plugin as well. This is a very useful function which myself and others have been missing. To be able to specify and work with a backplate or colored background interactively is extremely productive.
Hi,
If you are looking to assign a background and environment map separately, please check the resolution on this post to see if this resolves your request:

The workflow could be streamlined better, but it does work. Let me know if this helps.
Cheers,
Azen

Azen, thanks for the link and writing up the procedure. It works fantastic.
I did notice that the background image doesn't update; I had to close and re-open the render preview window. If and when this gets streamlined, please consider implementing a method that supports a regular texture node, ie solid colors, gradients, bitmaps with uv adjustments, etc.
Perhaps an elegant solution would be to add a background slot and checkbox to the existing Octane 'texture environment' node, whereby the existing slot would be labeled 'Environment'.

Hi,
Indeed, streamlining is a keyword there. This will be among a number of items worth revisiting once major milestones in v3 have been cleared. If successful implementation of streamlined solutions are not overly dependent on the expanded capabilities of v3, hopefully v2 can also benefit. We will see when the v3 plugin is released. Thank you so much for your feedback.
