Btw. any chance of getting a backplate image option ? Perhaps as an option under Octane->Preferences->Background display (If alpha is activated) ? Current options are None, Border, Checkerboard. An option to load ones own image will be great. The other option would be to pick the image from the DAZ->Environment if present. Either way, it will allow to render with a HDRI light but use a different image for the sky / background.
Octane will not save out a background image (backplate), so I'm not sure how much use this feature would be. You would still need to composite the image outside DAZStudio.

Update /Edit:

Maybe a separate background image option will be added later in the OR3 release cycle.

Ah. I thought the backplate image would be saved as a composite. Anyway, will work around the problem for the time being. Wanted the option for HDRI that Octane has for the standard daylight environment where you can load any sky texture.

linvanchene, thanks for the reference to the other threads. Btw. thanks too for posting the guide on the IES lights. It was very useful.

TRazor, yup, I have been clicking on the 'Alpha' button for fairly long but like you said doing everything in one application would be a lot better than using multiple applications.

Can you already share if it will be possible to add the Visible Environment option to the OcDS plugin?

Added a new "visible environment" pin to the render target node. If specified this environment is used for reflections, refractions and all camera rays that leave the scene and the regular environment is used only for the direct light calculation.
It was added in standalone alpha 7

Yes, it should be available in the DAZStudio plugin.

Hi Paul, is the timeline for the plugins going V3 also May 15, or are they being rolled out on an individual timeline basis?
Thanks!

The current TEST release is already built with Octane 3 (Alpha 6), so as new Octane 3 versions are released, a DAZStudio plugin will be released shortly to match that Octane 3 release. The only reason you don't have a plugin build for Alpha's 7, 8 and 9 is that there were some issue with those builds, meaning Alpha 6 is more stable.

Thanks Paul. Does the Daz plugin have render layers like the standalone, I didn't know how to do it if it was there, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks again.

It doesn't at the moment. I got started of implementing Render Layer, but it turned out to be more difficult that I first thought it would - so I have put it on the back-burner for the moment. But it should be possible in the future.
