Hello there, I'm at the point where I have to buy a new workstation and it really became a struggle for me this time.
I'm a dedicated mac user for more than 10 years and normally I wouldn't think about a PC option. But the fact that it is impossible to run Octane on the new macs is simply killing me and makes me thinking about switching to PC.

But before making that switch I want to make sure that this is the absolute best option.

So, here is the question:
My budget is about 3000$. There are 3 options I can get for that money
1. The new mac pro with radeon card, which as far as I understand will be possible to run Octane v3 on (will it?)
2. To buy the latest mac pro 5.1 mid 2012 and to upgrade it with 980ti
3. To simply buy the best PC you can get for that money

Please help me to decide:)

I am in a similar situation as you are, looking at building a hackintosh with SLI graphics card, have you made a decision yet?

No decision is made yet.
About hakintosh - may be I'm completely wrong, but as far as I understand, hakintosh is a "fake" mac, and from my life experience everything that is "kinda like the original" always sucks in the end. Again, may be I'm totally wrong, but unfortunately I'm not technical enough to understand the whole concept.

I'm using mostly After Effects and Cinema4d.

Ok, so it seems like its going to be PC. Sorry Mac, but you left me no choice.

Now it's just the matter of figuring out the proper configuration:) Which is not that easy after being a mac man for quite a while. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Here are the specs I'm looking at now:

processor: Intel Core i7-5930K
[LGA 2011-3, 6x3500 МГц, L2 - 1.5 Мб, L3 - 15 Мб, 4xDDR4-2133 МГц]

motherboard: MSI X99A SLI PLUS
[LGA 2011-3, Intel X99, 8xDDR4-3333 МГц, 4xPCI-Ex16, аудио 7.1, Standard ATX]

gpu: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 G1 GAMING [GV-N1080G1 GAMING-8GD]
[PCI-E 3.0, 8 Гб, 256 бит, GDDR5X, HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-D]

power: Zalman GVM 1000W [ZM1000-GVM]
[1000 Вт, 80+ Bronze, EPS12V, APFC, 20+4 pin, 1x 4+4 pin, 1x 8 pin CPU, 12 SATA, 6x 6+2 pin PCI-E]

512 Гб SSD A-Data PremierPro SP920 [ASP920SS3-512GM-C]
[SATA III, 560 mbps/470 mbps, Marvell 88SS9189, MLC]

cooling: Corsair H75
[4-pin, aluminium]

hardrive: 4 Тб Toshiba X300 [HDWE140EZSTA]
[SATA III, 6 gbps, 7200 rpm, cache 128 mb]

case: Zalman Z9 NEO
[Midi-Tower, Standard-ATX, 2x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0 ]

ram: Kingston HyperX FURY [HX424C15FB2K4/64] 64 Гб
[DDR4, 8 gbx8, 2400 mhz, PC19200, 15-15-15-35]

Is that configuration good enough for intensive work on large AE comps and Cinema4d (octane)?

Thanks!
