Hey,
Just getting into Octane render, and I've run into a small problem with face normals. I used to get this issue when going back and forth between 3D apps like Maya and XSI. Usually this problem gets resolved if I unlock the face normals. I'm currently working with Cinema and tried a variety of ways to duplicate this effect but it seems to happen at random, and deleting the uvs does not solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

this has been reported quite a few times now,
you must export in the correct scale, eg in the OBJ file one unit needs to be one meter.

let me see if i can find those other reports and the solutions.

Great,
Thanks for the info, I'll give that a shot. Right now I'm cooking a direct lighting turntable test render, as soon as its done I'll try adjusting the unit scale.

Hi,

Sorry but i can't find the posts anymore between the hundreds...
You need to make sure you're export units are in meters, and you need to export with propper vertex normals,
or, let octane calculate them by disabling the 'use vertex normals if supplied' option in the OBJ import preferences.

There have been 2-3 posts with the exact same problem, and i remember it was always due to export settings issues.

Radiance,
I just fixed the problem, you were right it was with the unit scale and I disabled importing the normals within the import option settings. I also needed to adjust cinema import/export features for obj's and in addition to making sure the unit scale was set to meters as well. Thanks for your help.

Radiance,
Your right, I should probably just use the Maya plugin. Right now I'm working on developing a more art oriented work-flow regarding 3D modeling and visualization. Its focused on Cinema 4D's body paint and Zbrush, as much as I am a Maya generalist, I try to avoid it all costs for personal work. :)
