Sorry if this was mentioned before but May 15th will be the final release of the 3.0 version, no Beta?
So we're going from Alpha (now) to final release in one month?
3.0 plugin for 3ds Max will be released as Alpha or Beta on May 15th?
Octane 3, Alpha - (Beta) - Final ?

Yes, on the Octane Standalone / core side we are aiming for a stable release mid May. On the plugin side things may take a bit longer.RobSteady wrote:Sorry if this was mentioned before but May 15th will be the final release of the 3.0 version, no Beta?

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is. - Yogi Berra
Sounds great for the standalone.
Best features for me: adaptive sampling & denoiser.
These things will be in 3.1, as Goldorak indicated. Any timeframe when this version will be available?
Does it come with an integrated version of Altus Denoiser or with your own? Can you share any wip screenshots/comparisons? There were some in the presentation but really fuzzy...

I've been pretty disappointed with texture baking. Specular highlights just become big nasty blobs that kill the photorealism of pathtracing. It's a bit of a let down in 3.0 when it makes everything look like a game engine. This was supposed to speed up animations, but it comes with a big downgrade in quality.
As I understand it, lightfield volumes will fix this. But that's a future development
So I'm about to pay $50 to upgrade my license, add on $40 a month for 2 render slaves, and all I really care about are features coming sometime in the future with 3.1 and 4. Oh, but also +$25 a month for third party denoising that I can't use until 3.1 drops. (still, glad I'm not an arnold user right now)
I feel like I might need to put off all CG animation work until 3.1 and focus on cinematography jobs. Speaking of, can we work on getting response curves in the imager for some of the popular digital cameras? Red MX, Red Dragon, Arri Alexa, Sony F55, Blackmagic Ursa, Canon C300, etc?

Do you realize that baking specular doesn't make sense, right?fatrobotsneedlove wrote:I've been pretty disappointed with texture baking. Specular highlights just become big nasty blobs that kill the photorealism of pathtracing.

Yeah. I'm just trying to describe the way light distributes itself in the bake. What words would you use to describe it?Rikk The Gaijin wrote: Do you realize that baking specular doesn't make sense, right?

Can you show an example of what problem are you getting?fatrobotsneedlove wrote:Rikk The Gaijin wrote: Yeah. I'm just trying to describe the way light distributes itself in the bake. What words would you use to describe it?
So far baking worked fine for me, but admittedly I only used it for AO.
Rikk, can you please make an extra thread for this?
Going a little off-topic and I still got no answer for the 3.1 release...
Thanks

Regarding Max-plugin release:
What is the roadmap for this?
How long do we have to wait for a production ready, stable version 3.
The first Alpha release had no info at all for features/fixes and was obviously just thrown at us to meet promised deadlines...
