i know i asked this many times but Will we see motion blur for liquids in octane 3 ?
vray for max has it, mental ray has it, iray has it
Someone said something about problems with max vector data but how come those engines can do mb for changing topology and octane cannot?
Will we see motion blur for liquids in octane 3

This question is still open... I've suspended this part of code written in the plugin currently 'cause due to strange 3ds Max API bug it works correctly for the first frame of animation only if 3ds Max alembic object's motion vector channel is used.
You can try to find the last discussion about it where I explained in details what is the problem with especially 3ds Max alembic object's motion vector data... If I remember correctly - there is a 3ds Max API bug that does not allow to the plugin to obtain the motion vector data after the very first animation frame. So, for the very first frame it can be obtained and rendered with the correct motion blur, but because the Max API returns erratic data for any subsequent array elements (holding motion vector data for subsequent frames) - all the subsequent frames have incorrect motion blur applied. The code for that is written and tested a long time ago, it works OK, and I would have been released this functionality a long time ago if not this bug that makes this functionality useless so far...
I asked there if somebody has some scenes that do not use the alembic object and have the motion vector data channel for some moving geometry - you are welcome to share it with me. I still can try to make it work. Perhaps I will be able to find some workaround... But nobody responded, so it looked like nobody is interested...
Are you sure that the other renderers use especially the motion vector channel to render these motion blurred objects, and this works especially with 3ds Max alembic object?.. Because if they don't use the motion vector channel in this case - they should not be affected by this bug...

Thank you JimStar
we love octane but just need motion blur very bad for liquids. I know otoy told us they do not have realflow to test
I am attaching liquid mesh max file you can use that was done using Lucid Plugin based on Nvidia Flex http://ephere.com/plugins/autodesk/max/lucid/
I think you have to install free trial and click simulate to see liquid mesh
Can otoy also contact Autodesk for help? I thin motion blur for liquids is a very big deal
Thank you

not sure what they use i know it works for them. Can you use their approach
This is from redshift render company "Support for reading motion vectors from RealFlow meshes is not yet in Redshift for 3ds Max. It's something we're planning to address soon." not sure what they are planning to do about it

Octane rendering core can only render the motion blur for non-constant topology meshes using motion vectors.
Regarding "Support for reading motion vectors from RealFlow meshes is not yet in Redshift for 3ds Max" - either the reason of they still not implemented it is this API bug I mentioned here, or they will meet this bug later when will be trying to implement it...

can you guys contact autodesk to resolve the problem.. I am hoping my file will help you
Thanks
Hi,
It would be great to get the API bug resolved by Autodesk. We can exercise no further control over this issue other than raising the issue with Autodesk. There are a number of extensive overhauls coming with Octane 3 - further testing and research may yield a potential work around or alternative approach, as Jim suggested, but that can only be confirmed as we get closer to release (or post-release at latest). There is enough in front of us to know that a successful implementation is within possibility, so it is definitely worth keeping the conversation around this feature alive.
There is a lot of critical tasks in the works for Octane 3, and for MAX integration, that will be prioritized initially. Please understand the need for patience as the Octane team continues with on-going work. The shift to Octane 3 will surely put us in a far better position to action this and a number of other community requests for future Octane and 3ds Max plugin releases.

hi Jim, it's me again. here my post will not delete?JimStar wrote: I asked there if somebody has some scenes that do not use the alembic object and have the motion vector data channel for some moving geometry - you are welcome to share it with me. maybe you should clarify which file format is needed? if I give you .bin file it will be suitable for you? or maybe .hip file (houdini file format) needs you?
in what format is still possible to transmit information about motion vector data channel, except alembic?
