Hi,
I haven't been able to watch the Periscope speech, but after reading the 77 slides, I'm not sure I understand what's to come correctly, regarding the 3DS max plug-in.
Will we be getting a 3DS max plug-in for Octane Render 3 ? What exactly is OctaneEngine ? Will the plug-in be integrated in OctaneEngine ? Will it be possible to buy the plug-in or will we have to rent it monthly via subscription ? There's litterally no clear information written about it anywhere... well, none that I've been able to find that is.

I am so with you on this... OTOY does the one thing you should never do, "over promise, under deliver".. I purchased Octane 2.X six months ago, it is a great piece of software... The company...mmmm. not so sure??...
riggles wrote:It seems with OTOY there is never a shortage of new roadmaps. All the ambition of a startup still without the self-control and deliberateness of a stable business model or a company with clear focus.
I check back in every once in a while to see how Octane Render has progressed and to see if I will be able to make use of my license. Yesterday's GTC check-in was the same -- I can't. The features aren't there enough to make it a complete solution, the 3ds Max integration is still...cumbersome, and the company's focus is everywhere but where I need it to be. I guess I've never understood the decision to get plugins for every possible DCC app and reach out for every emerging visual media technology to seemingly connect the whole world to a rendering engine that still has deficiencies. It's hard to build on a foundation that isn't finished (and keeps changing).
When I had to move from MODO to 3ds Max and I tried the native plugin, it was actually a step backward. I ended up buying a Vray license like everyone else. What choice did I have? Even if it's not the fastest, at least it can actually do whatever I need it to do and it's integration is production-ready.
When I see long-time customers and fans grow irritated with stagnation, meanwhile OTOY releases a new slew of future project initiatives that require code base rewrites again, I worry about the long-term future of the company. Chaosgroup at least brought to GTC an actual finished GPU rendering accomplishment. OTOY brought a low-poly car running on a laptop, yet another slide about future Octane cloud rendering availability, and more big goals with no real deadlines attached. Did the Octane 3.0 re-announcement even include a firm feature list from when it was announced last GTC? I'll check back in another 6 months or so...

If I undestood correctly new secret feature of max , maya and blender plugin is actually Octane engine API? So you could use your lets say laptop with integrated graphic card to control your main render station over internet. And in one moment you will start with subscription only model with price tag 9.99$/month?
AMD FX 6300, 24 GB RAM, Gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud5, 2x MSI GTX 780 3GB

You have a release date and pricing for Octane 3 and ORC on May 15th.

Yes. Zero GPU means the GPU can be on another box over LAN, with no render GPU needed on the local machine running Max/Maya. The rental model for OE is $9.99 for 2x GPU, or $19.99 for all GPUs on the box + network rendering .mark0spasic wrote:If I undestood correctly new secret feature of max , maya and blender plugin is actually Octane engine API? Hello Goldorak,
I'm still using version 1.9 because of material differences etc, i confess i have not followed Octane developed all that much in recent months due to several things... in my case I have 4 licenses purchased, what will happen to these licenses once i update to version 3?
if i have all 4 pc's with their own GPU (say for example 6 to 8 gpus on each PC) can i still use the plugin like im using it now on max for the current version. or will it change to a subscription model?
or is the subscription model only applies to Octane Engine?

Octane for 3ds Max v2.21.1 | i7-5930K | 32GB | 1 x GTX Titan Z + 2 x GTX 980 Ti
But you can do this already with any remote control software.Goldorak wrote:Yes. Zero GPU means the GPU can be on another box over LAN, with no render GPU needed on the local machine running Max/Maya.
What's the difference in using TeamViewer for example? I can work perfectly from home with my iPad controlling my workstation in the office with Octane.
Or control another pc here in the office from my computer that runs Octane.
I don't get this feature. Is this the big secret thing everyone was working on so hard the last months?
Was this requested even once by any user? Is there any urgent need for this?
