Hi, hoping someone can help. I was working on a scene using Windows 7, (Poser Pro 2014) the scene used about 4.5GB's. Ive a 6Gb card so had no troubles.
I've made a clean install to windows 10, using a brand new drive and got everything up and running but now the same scene has problems loading into Octane. The log says failed to allocate memory and when it sometimes does load the scene, it tells me I have basically no VRAM left but quite clearly I still have over 1Gb spare.

If you look at screen shot attached it says I'm using 4901/6144mb, but my free memory is only 17mb and it will only rarely open the scene at all.
I've done various graphic cards tests and am getting no VRAM errors surely Windows 10 can't use that much for itself.
My Nvida driver is 364.72.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Mike

Turning on Out Of Core textures in the plugin setup/configuration should resolve your problem.

Hi thanks, for the reply.

Can't remember if it was using out of core textures when I was running it in Windows 7, so that could well be the case but I do remember it saying I had over 1gb of free memory left though as I was about to add another character to the scene.

Is there anything that can cause the big discrepancy between what memory it says I need and what it is actually using, as 1.2gb is quite a lot to be out by.

Thanks

It depends what version of Octane you are running. Octane 2.25 is stable and should report the correct VRAM usage. Octane 3.0.6 is alpha and might have some VRAM reporting inconsistencies.

I have been using Octane version 2.25, maybe version 3 even though in alpha may work correctly.

I don't have any other programs open so they shouldn't be taking up any vram and this scene has worked perfectly before.

If I use out of core textures will this have an impact on render times?

Octane 2.25 should be correctly reporting the VRAM use, so it sounds like something else is using VRAM too - Poser probably. Keep in mind if you have a single card for rendering and as your display adapter, that cards VRAM will be being used by all OpenGL applications.

The render time impact appears to be minimal.

Many have reported Windows 10 is the problem. Might be the reason since you say it was working under Windows 7.

This seems exactly the problem, thanks for pointing it out.

I can get past it with Out of core textures but is annoying as I just bought a card with 6GB ram and a sixth of it it can't be used!

Hopefully it will be sorted soon.
