My i7 CPU has Intel graphics. Is it possible to use this to power my monitor while using my NVidia cards for Octane Render only? I seem to remember that this didn't really work for some reason but wondered if it is possible somehow?

Yes it's possible, do it! =) plug Your monitor into Your motherboard to be powered by iGPU built inside CPU & that's all. =)

As Glimpse says...do it! You might need to enable a BIOS setting to do this.

do it!
Just remember, that your PC will be set up then solely for rendering purposes and not more.
Running other graphically-demanding applications (such as games other design-sofware etc.) might not be possible, since your on-board GPU won't be able to render those in the same fashion as you're used to.

Thanks, I had already tried and I did not succeed. I don't knew I had to changue to the BIOS. Now I can use CPU Intel HD Graphics to Monitor and NVidia GPU for rendering. Now my Renders fly.

My Gateway i5 computer automatically disables my built in Graphics. In the BIOS the enable button is grayed out. Bummer. Oh well.

If it is greyed out, you might not have an onboard graphics adapter.

Concerning other software, would Vegas Pro 13 and plugins like BorisFX BCC 9 still be able to use the NVidia GPU's if I assign the display to my Intel GPU? Also, will DAZ Studio IRAY still be able to use the NVidia GPU's? Is only Octane able to use the NVidia GPU's when they aren't driving the display as well?

Every other software will only be able to utilize your onboard GPUs rendering capabilities.
As to my knowledge, Octane (and its API) is one of the few pieces of software out there, that can access GPUs in PCIex-slots, which weren't assigned with tasks. Other GPU renderers do this as well obviously...

Not sure how Boris / Vegas etc. are working on the onboard GPU - same goes for DAZ Studio and Iray renderes.
Just never tried it, would certainly be interesting to know though...
