I have found the following issue:
In my scene I have 1 OctaneSunSkyTransform light source which is driven by an exr environment file. After I hit render or IPR render: the rendered image is overlit and clearly not using the texture. **
However when in IPR mode, if I change any attribute on the OctaneSunSkyTransform node, the updated IPR image will be perfect.

Unfortunately I can't use this hack for batch rendering, so any input or workaround suggestions would be very welcome.

** edit:
I realised that the issue is that the rotation node on the sphere projection is ignored on first render.
however this still remains an issue

SOLUTION:
The octane sunSkyTransform node was not added to the current render layer. (duh, rookie mistake)
Thank you for all who replied.

It could be lot of different things here, could you share the maya scene with only the octaneSunsky node inside (and maybe the EXR) ? I'll try to reproduce and help if I can.

Unfortunately i have already left the office. The scene contains a lot of sensitive material, but I'll see what I can share.

Check to make sure you don't accidentally have two or more environment nodes in the scene. I've made this mistake myself, and Octane gets confused. It does exactly the behaviour you're describing.

Hope that helps.
