Hi Maya/Octane users,
I am dropping a note here to let you guys know that HDR Light Studio 5.3 is released and has added a major new feature - the creation and control of emitters.
This is compatible with our Maya plug-in and works perfectly with Octane. As you light your shot in HDR Light Studio, the HDRI map is updated and area lights are built. We create the geometry and emitter shader on the fly, and map our content onto the light. It works seamlessly and makes lighting a real joy, see the lighting update in the IPR view whilst driving the lighting from HDR Light Studio.
Please do check out our blog post which includes a video on how it works:

HDR Light Studio 5.3 adds Maya/Octane Emitters!

Yes! When an area light is created in HDR Light Studio, this light is built as polygon in Maya with an octane emitter material. The image content is HDR Light Studio is mapped onto this light. This al happens instantly. So you just light the shot in HDR Light Studio and the lighting is built for you in Maya. So yes, a picture can be loaded onto a light in HDR Light Studio and it will appear on the octane light in Maya. Let me know if you need more info. Once the dust settles on the release we can make a video for each renderer we support, showing how it works.prodviz wrote:Hi Mark
Very nice.
Just a quick question, can you add a picture light to a maya Octane light (or poly board)?
Cheers
Cool, cheers.Seggy wrote:Yes! When an area light is created in HDR Light Studio, this light is built as polygon in Maya with an octane emitter material. pretty cool update! As handy as HDR Light Studio is, sometimes I prefer working with physical lights. Excited to give this a whirl
The good news is, you can do that now with HDR Light Studio 5.3 - it creates physical lights in 3D space for you in Maya / Octane - and set up the polygon and shader for the light, and maps the light content to it from HDR Light Studio.itsallgoode9 wrote:pretty cool update! It's hard for us to break pre-conceptions about lights always being on the HDRI map (this is what we have been about for 6 years

Hey Mark, there seems to be alot of bugginess when it comes to soloing lights. Sometimes when I take it off solo, none of the other lights turn on and i have to manually turn them off the on again before they'll show up. Have you run into this? Other than that issue, i'm liking the new update!
Hi, sorry about the delay, I was sure I had notifications turned on for this post.... Just got it.
We made great efforts to make this work with Octane. But there is a situation where this may happen. If you start HDR Light Studio and it loads the embedded HDRLS project from Maya, and some of those lights are hidden, I think this issue can arise when turning those back on, i.e. loading a project with hidden lights. Can you confirm is this is when you are seeing the issue please? If we can repro it, we can fix it. Any help to show us how to repro is appreciated.
I'm glad you are liking it apart from that!
