Distribution vs texture

Hello guys!

I'm getting confused with these two options in lights.
What's the difference between distribution and texture? Or should the question be how exactly each options works?

I would say texture is WHAT is being cast. And distribution is WHERE its being cast, or in other words HOW MUCH of it is being cast.

But I agree its a tiny bit confusing. Perhaps I'm wrong too :D
