$300 off and includes LightWave 2015, ChronoSculpt, and NevronMotion. They are likely releasing the next version very soon, thus the promo... so this is kinda like getting the upgrade for free.

I truly wish I had time today, to gush about why I love LW so damn much... maybe some of my fellow LW'ers can help me?..

A couple things I absolutely love about LW, and why I would encourage folks to take the plunge or make the switch:

[1] Most kick-ass, sexy, intuitive, text-based interface of any 3D app you will find. It uses almost no icons, which really are childish and make no one's life easier or better. I have been around long enough and used enough 3D apps to know that it takes more time to find/interpret/decipher icons than it takes to read a couple words.

[2] Modeler and Layout are separate apps (a good thing), but linked by Hub, which allows back and forth.

[3] Comes with physics, particles, volumetrics, instancing/scattering, etc, etc... most everything you need right in the box.

[4] Juanjo, our Octane plug dev, is simply the best. Period.

Saw this the other day and thought it was cool. First "render" in the first "program" written by the two guys that invented Lightwave (and later Modo). They were 14 at the time. Crazy how far we've come and what you can get now for under $1k!

Allen Hastings wrote Videoscape 3D for Aegis Software back in 1987. Stuart Ferguson wrote Modeler which along with Videoscape 3D morphed into Lightwave 3D which was first introduced in 1990 with the VideoToaster on the Amiga. I remember seeing a demonstration of it at a user group meeting, and we where all floored at what it could do. I used to have Videoscape 3D and Modeler on my Amiga 1000. Before Modeler was introduced you had to actually plan out your 3D objects on graph paper to input them into Videoscape. It was primitive back in the day until Modeler came along with its tri-view and real polygonal modeling tools! It was amazing what you could do on that little 68000 machine with 512k of ram. I miss those days and that computer. Ah nostalgia :D

Lightwave is the Millenium Falcon of 3D apps.

Makes the Kessel Run under twelve parsecs if one is willing to get under the hood and get hands dirty and do some special modifications.

:)

I have now been eye balling LWcad v5. This plugin has been around long time, but I have never took the time and looked at it (so many plugins out there..). Now that I have, I still can't believe what I am looking at. Guy who made that, must be a freaking genius. Gonna buy that, about now.

True, Viktor made a plugin which has so many tools and great workflows that it looks like almost entire new application just working under LWM GUI, he truly is great asset to LW community.

I went in on this, and am very excited to learn this! I was looking for something that had complex effects and modeling, and here it is. As of this post the price seems still active, too, check the website if still interested, might still be active.

LOL, having used a couple 3D applications, the UI is not so intuitive, hate those tiny icons  (ironic right?....Thank goodness for ALT & SHIFT).
But anyway, there is a learning curve to everything...and who cares because you can do so much...
Here is a vid that shows the nav controls, with emphasis on icons  :

I agree, know Juanjo from Houdini usage, very helpful and insightful. Thanks for the post, Frank! Great GREAT recommendation

I'm so happy bro!.. I was thinking; if I only get one bastard to hop on this, it is worth the effort to post...

You will not regret it. And you have a bunch of wonderful, talented folks to help you along, and got your back, both here and LW forums.

I look forward to seeing what you can create, with all that effing power you wield! Just remember, slow and steady wins the race. Keep it simple as possible at first, especially with modeling.

And don't forget to put "LW Plug" (or similar) in your sig!.. To help spread the LW gospel... Hey Boris, et al, you too!

Thanks Notiusweb! :D

Frank,
Are you implying that my currently fully useable ~20+or- year old Video Toaster version of Lightwave isn't the latest release and accordingly that ScreamerNet is no longer screaming?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

On it, I'm still running V5 of LightWave for the Amiga.
