Hi all. Octane c4d plugin user. Does anyone know the RAM requirements needed for a workstation with x12 980ti gpu setup using external bays? Each card would have 6gigs of vram. I'm trying to config a low cost workstation that would be ideal for this.

Thanks.

I might be wrong, but from what I know You don't need too much more ram using multiple cards compared to what You need for one.. (but I never tend to do specific inspection fop this topic). However..low cost workstations with 12 GPU will not happen easy..as You will run out into issues with bioses..what You end up looking to lift 12GPs is proper motherboard with Xeons & layout to fit those GPUs.. if You're going to use riser cables to displace cards be ready to shell 50$ or more per shielded Hi-quality cables (or 250 per 4GPU splitter)..otherwise You start getting issues with stability..- so to say the least.. even if You're looking to for heap 12GPU setup (on air.. it will not be so cheap.. =) probably more than 10k$..but..You can build close to similar power with less GPUs, by OCing & water-cooling. ~1000 in OctaneBench could be reached with 7GPUs & that would keep Your out from various problems.

I've read the Glimplse post about 4x gpu slitter... do you have tested one of them?
Expecially related to the out-of -core issue that I've mentioned in my post here:
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=52548

Do you know how they goes in terms of rendering time, because I've experimented a drop of 10x with riser cables...

Hi,

would like to join this topic.

I actually have a Titan Z (2 x 6GB) inside my 2. Render-PC and
an Amfeltec GPU cluster with 4 x GTX780 (6GB each).

Problem:
with my ASUS P8P67 3.1 Board, only 3 of the 4 GTX780 gets recognized.
So I only get 5 out of 6 - and of course I want them all!

So my question is, to which Board should I upgrade to get all my 6 GPUs working?
(I also intend to add 2 more 780/980 GPUs with 6GB)
So can anyone tell me, which Board will work with 8 GPUs?

Best would be, if I can keep my i72006K and my 32G RAM

thanks
Mike

hi, there. I don't use Out of Core Texture functionality, so can not comment this fact.. but if You wish & could provide huge scene + assets in let's say .ORBX format I would be glad to test thigns out using Standalone for You. I have few splitter by my side from amfeltec.

If You would like to displace card fro mthe case (leaving more room to breath for others) use 16x to 16x or 8x to 8X..- do not bottleneck data traffic with some cheap cables.. (those flat ribon x8 or x16 do not cost too much, unless You get shielded, goldplated, etc..& it's not a must).

I'm not surprised to see rendering performance dropping down as information should go from SYSTEM RAM to GPU & if You end up having 1x this slows down comunication a lot..especially for heavy scenes where You have to move a lot of data.

Hi Glimpse, could be an interesting test!
Perhaps could be a better solution that you put a very large texture (you simply could copy the same tex changing its name) in some material of your scene, since Vram used is only for textures not for geometry, right? If you need I can send you a big texture to inser in your scenne, let me know.

Could you also suggest witch ribbon cable work better ? Can you post a web link?
Thanks again.
