Pls see the Octane 3 features list - Displacement - at viewtopic.php?f=33&t=51679. Shift has been replaced with Mid-Level.

thanks Paul, if im not sure i get it 100%

If i have a disp map, i should be setting the height of that now with mid level and leave the offset at .1 or should i be adj both now? Ans should i be setting projection to UV or leave that alone ? I have tried a few diff combos but its blowing up the prop.

If you create a new material with a displacement, then click the '?' button, and click the pins on the displacement node you will get the tooltip info for those pins, which explain exactly what they do. Mid level and Height are the sliders that you will need to be adjusting.
