hi Studiolocal,
v3 alpha was presented some weeks ago as you have already seen from the discussion that you have linked.
Currently, Standalone is already at its fourth alpha version (you can find all the test versions in the "Development Build Releases" section :

While the the latest test version of c4d plugin is based on v3 alpha 3 SDK (you can find all the plugin test versions in the "Realases" sub section of the c4d section)

All the v2 users can use any v3 alpha or beta version till the official v3 realization. You can have different octane versions in your workstation in the same time with no issue. Then you can decide if still stay on v2 or pay for the v3 update. Obviously, when v3 will be ready to purchase, all the alpha and beta v3 will stop to work.
I hope that now is more clear ;)

thanks for your reply - so if we test the V3 standalone alpha so you un-install it to swap back to the V2 release version ? or do just quit and launch the other version ? thx

Hi,
no, no need to uninstall, you can have both versions with no issue. When v3 will come out, the old alpha and beta versions will just stop to work without an update while all v2 versions and below will continue to work as usual ;)
