Here's the issue I'm facing:
1) All settings are good in Render setup in C4D (R17)
2) I can even render a simple scene animation of 90 frames via the C4D Picture viewer with renderer set to Octane.

However, if I render out a heavy scene (about 1 million polys) all I get is black frames
BUT... The same scene has no issued rendering in the Octane Live viewer - it does it in seconds and I can save the image out. The issue is of-course, how do I save an animation out of Octane Live viewer?

The reason I ask is, because when trying to render via C4D main render route (Picture Viewer for animation) or the Main render button, I get black frames. This is after about 5 minutes of the program saying "analysing frames"

PC config is Asus Rog with Nvidia 980m

Ok some further digging and I think I may have found the culprit..

Metaball within a cloner.

I have a plane about 10 segments made into a metaball.
This is dropped into a cloner for radial clones totaling 24.

This is what seems to be killing the main Octane Render and making it spit out black frames.
THe Octane live viewer meanwhile, has no issues with rendering everything correctly.

Can anyone confirm this? (so I don't have to keep switching things on and off in the C4D comp to troubleshoot more. There's a load of deformers in the comp)

Thanks.

Hi,
Do you know that Octane is gpu renderer? It has triangle count limits for V2 and also you are limited by VRAM for polygons? Also do you know that metaball has two subdivision factor for viewport(LV uses viewport data) and final render? It results different polygon counts in render out.

Aoktar, :)
You beat me to it. Thanks for the logical answer.
I'm typing this, even as the render is going on now. Yes it was the Metaball subdivision count . It was set to 5 (for the render) and in the editor I was working at 40.
Set it 40 now , with no degradation in quality on output.

Thanks for the work on porting Octane! Money well spent on buying the plugin+Octane.
