Hi All! thanks for reading. I'm using the most recent version (2.24.2 R1.2) and the latest nVidia driver. I'm getting consistent crashes when I try to use displacement inside of a specular material applied to a hypernurb set on default 2x3. I've tried using a simple 1024x1024 JPG as the input and I've tried the C4D noise set to 1024. But when I connect the image texture node to displacement and send the scene, Octane thinks about it, renders the scene, and then crashes. sometimes it crashes the whole computer, and sometimes it just crashes C4D and the nVidia driver. But I still need to reboot.

Win7 with 64 gigs ram i7 processor
GTX670 driving monitors set to priority
2 GTX970s for rendering.

Is anyone else seeing these kinds of crashes with Displacement?

There are often problems with timeout and displacement with Windows, if this is the case, the solution is to use the Standalone installer that makes some changes in the timeout section of your system and reboot.
If this does not help, please, share a simple scene with us ;)

Hey, thanks for getting back to me...

I downloaded the standalone installer from this page:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=52329
then I used this installer
https://render.otoy.com/customerdownloa ... _win64.exe
(note, the installer took only a couple of seconds to run, that seemed short)
rebooted
Launched the attached scene file,
added an image texture node,
loaded the noise jpg in the attached "tex" folder,
connected the image texture to the displacement node,
clicked the send scene button,
immediate hard crash of the whole system
reboot

Displacement on Octane is sensitive and tricky to use. There is some limitations also. You don't have well assigned uv coordinates on objects. I suppose that causes to crash the Engine.

Thanks, now that you've said it, I can see how that would be a problem with displacement. So is the solution to always work with unwrapped objects?

LOL, no, but you did write a pretty amazing plugin for C4D. and thank you for that!
