Hello everyone, I've just purchased Octane Render for cinema4d recently and I'm really happy with the RT and the final image quality. It is faster(period) compared to maxon render and vray depending on the scene geometry, materials and lights. However, most of the work I do is on my alienware 17(mid 2013) model with GTX880M. Some scenes render fast while some render slowly(DL/PMC). The question is, I have the option to upgrade my GPU to either single 980M, or SLI 980M. Will the upgrade be beneficial to my render speed or I should just invest in eternal GPU setup? As for building a workstation is not suitable for me atm due to personal reason. Thanks.

Hi zino,
according to OctaneBench, you should have a not bad performance gain since the 880M scores 43 while the 980M scores 70:

If you can have a dual GPU set up, is even better and you should reach 140 in Octanebench

I'm not sure what model of Alienware You have, but if I were You I would probably leave it as it is is & think of that eGPU box Alienware has =) You can house something like TitanX or at least 980Ti inside with propper cooling. Yes, lugging that box around might not be perfect, but for Your laptop You still nead power source as it will not last so long on rendering anyway =) Think that would be the most logical solution, but Your needs might differ & external GPU route might not be the thing for You (just mentioning this option in case You have missed it).

Thanks Tom, you've really helped a lot of people in this forum. As for my laptop doesn't support Alienware new external GPU machine tho. Need to find another way.
