Hi all, i' ve teste my two 980's with stock settings and clocked settings using MSI afterburner and....there' s no difference at all in the rendertimes, it is because MSi afterburner clocks the graphical mhz's? Octane is using basically cudacores right? so it' s the part of the GPU that' s similar to a CPU but with more cores? There' s a way to overclock the cudacores? It is possible?

Yes, you can overclock your gpu.
I use Presicion X16, but with Afterburn you can do it too.
Probably the best way to learn is watch youtube vids.

firstly, what is Your card? if You're running stock cooler Your GPU is going to be thermal throttled anyway..

Get GPU-z and watch your MHz. Willing to bet they throttle as temps raise... Z

Now this is a strange thing that i' ve tested...basically (i have two gigabyte GTX 980 g1 gaming) when i start the pc...if i open MSi afterburner it drops the gpu's performances like shit...to put away this underperformance state i need to restart the pc, if i do not start the MSi afterburner the performance will be what they would be from two 980's (octanebench with decrease of performance: 60 points, restarting the pc: 200...heh) this is strange because i can set to the max the gpu' s on msi...the performances will be the same underperformed...it is some sort of block that the two gpu' s actuate if they detect an overclock program? really really strange.
the temps are alright even at full load, 35-40-45 degrees (they mount a very good stock cooler)

there's nothing strange =) You OCed too far & GPUs tried to prevend from damaging Your cards. Firstly You need to turn on MSI & restore defaults..then restart Your PC. Once that done, turn on MSI & start pushing, little by little..50 MGZ incriments & fire up OctaneBench everytime..-OC depends mostly on luck with Your given card..200 is good & expected result,..at most on air.. keep in mind..OctaneBench is very light workload - basically puting only core on load. If You pass it, that doesn't mean Your GPUs are going to be stable. Load something heavy =) like heavy scene, huge resolutions, a lot of meshes & textures - taht is going to put more stress on VRAM & VRMs =) You might see some drop in clock speeds (the same You observed already) what would say to You to lower OC a bit.

P.S. cooler matters less than the space between Your GPUs..if You have "very Good" cooler & GPUs with backplate it's straigt dumb to put those GPUs side by side (without extra space in between) as You choke at least one of them & also heating other.. what leads to..instability & lost clock speeds..taht require reboot =)
do not push too far & You should be good.

I was getting repeatable performance improvements on my 970 using afterburner....
Tested a few weeks ago so cant remember the numbers....but I think it was between 5-10% improvement in MSamples/sec
the most important part is overclocking the power/thermal barrier to 106% (may be able to go higher on 980...970 limit is 106%) as the GPU kinda dynamically overclocks and the 106% is usually the limiting factor....you can raise fan speed to help with the thermal barrier.
But as was said....the boost clock will be meaningless as that is just a temporary boost. 200mhz on core clock...and 350+ on memory is typical decent overclock. I would be willing to bet that 100mhz core and 175 mhz memory is 100% guaranteed to run without issues...about a 10% boost in clock speed.
I would save a preset, and engage it before a big render....5-10% may seem trivial...but I did some 90hr renders a few months ago...and that is a significant reduction over that time.
