I am currently working on a space video.
I was testing some lighting on an early piece of the model and added a sunlight.
I turned the sky color to black but I still get a light grey color on the bottom of the scene that lights the model and I want to avoid that.
Is there a work around for this?

To control the environment with a sunlight, you may also add a Texture Environment or a Hdri Environment object (with a black color by sample, a HDRI file or a spherical picture) and activate "Mix sky texture" and "Imp. Samp." in the Octane tag of your sunlight.
But of course you may also composite with a C4D Background object as suggested by Aoktar.
Here a screen capture of my explanation EDIT : i forgot to say that the Texture or HDRI Environment will interact in lighting and will add indirect light. In your case, if you add a black color, it'll change nothing of course...
