I've manage to make a fairly convincing looking smoke material, but now I need the dark part to go away. I've been playing with it for an hour, but does anyone know how to make an alpha channel out of the black portions of the turbulence shader?

Hi,
the black part of the turbulence should be already be transparent if plugged in the opacity pin... anyway, if you use a color correction node to control the turbulence, you should be able to obtain any kind of masking, I guess

Still haven't figured out a convincing gas material though, at least not something that will beat out what I can do with trapcode particular. You'd think that x particles would have the goods over particular...
