Hi everyone,
I am debating between two 980 ti (6gb) and two titan x(12gb)
i will be producing architectural visualizations through rhino and possibly max or blender. high resolution is important and modeling will include complex environment such as trees, plants, etc.
Is 6gb of vram more than sufficient or is 12gb just extravagant?
your experiences and input on vram will be highly appreciated!
regards,
doh

Hi,
if I were you, I would look to the 980 ti and use the saved money for better cooling, like hybrid or liquid solution.
Working at 40°/50° has a great impact on speed
The upcoming v3 will give us much more freedom with VRAM without the frame buffer in it, plus we have out-of-core-texture feature that works very well.
Probably you need at least 32 GB of system RAM for working smoothly with big scenes

Ahhh i see. Thanks for the info. I was considering the all-in-one hybrid version from evga. What do you think of that product? When do you expect v3 to be released? Q1 or Q2 next year? I see that alpha may be released next week.
Thanks for your input.

I have a friend with dual EVGA Titan X Hybrid plus a Quadro k620 for display and the temperature and performance are incredible. EVGA has also a 980 and a 980 ti hybrid version, and other assemblers have similar solutions. It seems a very good solution for mid range GPU system, for 4x GTX solution, probably a full liquid system is the right choice
I can't say anything about v3 roadmap, but you will be able to use the new frame buffer very soon

Hello,
I would like to know what is the better option for GPU rendering more faster.
3 way of Titan X or 4 way of 980 Ti?
I understand that the more memory is better but the Cuda core will be better with the 4 980Ti.
And what about the different cards into the workstation? One Titan X and 2 980Ti ?
My use will be for 1080p animation, not for only one high res pict, and I would like to increase the rendering time.
At the moment, I'm not sure if I will go to use Octane engine for animation rendering...
I run C4D R16 on a PC that have 64 Mb ram under Seven 64 on SSD.
Many thanks for your feedback and help to choose

Hi.
C4D and Octane is the perfect combination for animation. If you are used to optimize your scenes, 6GB of VRAM are more than enough and the upcoming v3 is even less VRAM dependent
So 4 x 980ti can give you from 500 to 560 point, while 3x Titan X can give you from 380 to 450 according to the Octane benchmark results:
https://render.otoy.com/octanebench/res ... ingleGPU=1
You can mix different GTX especially if they are of the same architecture, both Titan X and 980 ti are Maxwell cards, so they can work together, but you will not be able to use the extra VRAM in the Titan X, unless it is used alone.

...and to make thing more confusion; in V3 you may be able to leverage excess memory for more parallel processing/Faster speed

Hello,
At the moment I have 3 Titan X Maxwell under full water cooling. I have the opportunity to buy a Titan Z, what do you think about: Better way to add one more Titan X or add this Titan Z with 6 Gb by GPU ? It's the opportunity to add more than 5000 cuda core
I know that is not the same architecture and the difference between 12 and 6 Gb of ram, I will lost the benefits of max ram for texture...
My Asus X99 WS mother card can drive 7 PCI-E with DIY case and risers.
Thanks
