So this means it won't possible to update when the initial V3 is released. Only an upgrade from V2 will be possible then.
I guess he means that you can update v1 to v2 during the v3 beta phase and also have the option of trying v3 beta before upgrade your licence.
I suppose that, after v3 will be out, v1 to v3 will cost the same as v1 to v2 plus v2 to v3
