Hello, I'm a new Octane for lightwave user.
very happy to be an Octane user...
well, I have 2 questions, and one problem to ask for...I have found no answer around this forum:
1) IOR index is related to real world materials IOR index?
2) is there a way to get soft shadows from the sun?
then
using displacement map my object totally disappear... using my previous Octane demo version was fine.. really strange.
I'm using LW2015.3 with GTX950 drv V358.50...
could be the driver? or lightwave?
thanks in advance

Hi Alberto!
I think that currently the IOR parameter is not related to the physical materials IOR values, but anyway perhaps other user could clarify it. You can control the sun soft shadows using the "Sun Size" parameter available in the Daylight environment node.
About your displacement problem, be aware that displacement only works in objects with at least one available UV map. It doesn't work if you try to project a texture usingh the Octane projection node.

I thought that the Index parameter was based on materials real world IOR value. Although it only works above 1. If it isn't, i'd be interested to know what the hell it is based on, becuase I asked that questions specifically in the general forum, and got no indication it was anything other than the IOR value.

Alberto, that 950 is a woefully weak GPU... There aren't any in the OctaneBench results, and for a good reason, I'm sure.. Not picking on you bro, but I'm guessing your score would likely be around 32 or so. BTW, run OctaneBench and submit, so there will be a 950 in there. But really, you could do waaaay better than that, for real cheap. Hell, add a used 580 for $100-$150 or so... But maybe that little card suits your needs just fine. Sorry if that is the case. Just trying to help.

Yes, studio type shots can be much more forgiving on GPUs... but 20x, 40x, 80x speed increases are even better.
Have you looked into HDR Light Studio?
