Hi Everyone,

I saw a new de-noise for Renderman.

I was wondering if this type of technologie would be possible with Octane. He render some extra passes to help the denoise.

Would be great something similar. maybe.

We've been experimenting with denoising via post processing for a while, primarily testing this in Brigade, with the intent of adding this to Octane if/when it proves useful in a general production workflow. Denoising is minutes per frame of heavy processing, and isn't a magic bullet you can count on in all cases.

It is introducing bias into the render, especially the temporal interpolation. When speed is paramount that is OK.

We have something in the roadmap that I think could be very useful for large scale rendering of animations. When you render an 8D light field on ORC (coming soon), you will be able to quickly recompute the position/time of the camera on demand from the cloud. This has uses beyond VR/AR. It allows you to resample the fps, or create stereo or 2D renders at any resolution, from any point in the light field volume (typically 1 m cubed). If we render a true 8D light field, you can also change the lighting of the scene on the fly as well.

Some time ago, I did buy NEAT image. It comes as plugin or standalone app and for movie app. I think it's a good denoiser.
Here's an example: very coarse render (20-30'' of render) just to try it.
I'd like to know your opinion about it.

Okay to use it on masked out white walls/ceilings to save a few hundred samples.
Very bad to use it on the whole image, you'll loose all the details.

The solution from Innobright is much more advanced.
