Hi, i think that's temporarily disabled on latest releases. Propably due stability problems, can't remember well. Sorry for confusion.

@Ahmet, just FYI: using c4dOctane-R17.cdl64 will lead to "plugin not found" on my computers. R16 works.

Btw, voxel rendering is still deactivated until v3?

Any idea when 3.0 is appearing? I assume this removes any limit on the amount of geometry handled by the GPU? This will make huge difference with complex scenes. My 3GB card often chokes on big scenes (like Forester trees).

We are waiting also. I think process is slow due performance concerns. Gpu programming has some strange limitations as i know which requires lot of tricks to work around. Also somethings can be impossible without loosing the performance. If we loose the performance there will not be any attractiveness of Octane. I know many people wish everythings as in cpu renderers, even me also. But some simple things for you, not so simple for GPU without killing the performance. Also try to remember the words from other render developers about gpu ports. They always have mention about limitations of gpu rendering. These are same points.

About geometry limites, as i can know that geometry limit is related with 2Gb barrier internally. But i think 3Gb VRAM will not make so big different on you. You may will have to upgrade your gpu with 3.0.

Btw., 't was one computer only. I'll try it again.
Is there any difference in functionality of R16 and R17.cdl64?

Edit: just for a test I put both, r16 and r17 cdl in c4doctane directory. Normally an error appears about multiple starting of DLL. Not this time, and plugin appears.
It's a Z800 Dual Xeon 5675 with Win 7 Pro.

It says in message. Multiple DLL's. Don't put more than one DLL file to same directory. Otherwise plugin ID's will be collided. Of course both has same functionality, but R17 version has been compiled with SDK of 17.0.

Forgive me, but I feel a bit confused. We are waiting for a 2.24.2 R1 release, but you are speaking about the coming 3.0... You are working around the 2.24.2 for a long time and, atm, you released just a testing version... Why? I'm not interested in 3.0 (atm), but what I feel is something strange: there is a (old) testing version (test 3.1) that, maybe, has some problem... Just for testing, as you wrote.
But in general, you release a "workable" release every months (more or less) and the latest was on 5th of august... What makes the 2.24.2 TEST3.1 not yet reliable?
So, please, let us to know a little bit more...
Anyway, I do appreciate your great job, and I think that other 3D sw hasn't a great developer as you are, to me, but I think for all of us.
Thank you again for all the effort you're doing to give us as better 'bridge' as possible.

Ok i see you're confused. But this is different period for us. Always was same on 1.0->2.0 transition period.

I made some big changes in this TEST release and affraid about stability until people says that's rock solid. If you read changes list you'll see these. These changes couldn't be done over a stable release. This waiting period is big opportunity to do these for me. And i have broke all codes to make this big revisions. And not possible to work on previous stable. So I'm affraid will not be a stable over 2.24.0 and we will push this test version to stable state. I'm thinking TEST version will become stable after a few more sub versions.

Also this test version contains the changes for 3.0. So i'm not just working for 2.0 also 3.0 has been improved in background. So I mean that we don't sleep here;)

And i will not answer this question: IS THIS VERSION STABLE ENOUGH?
You and guys should say this. Though that i added several extra features as a gift for you. And also these are a base for features of 3.0. People who use the Test version may drop some experiences to let me know about stability. Because i don't think this job as just commercially, this is a help to community. So all we are all friend and develop a render plugin for each of us.
