hii all
1. I gonna quit Vray for Octane , i have 3 computers What license i have to buy? i dont wanna use standalone at all , i use 3ds max for many years and i wanna stay inside 3ds max .
2. As i said i got 3 pcs , What will be the best Farm? consider Price , i saw here in the forums that Single Gtx 780Ti Score faster then Gtx 980..is that right?
to go : ?
12Cards>> A. 3X4 Gtx 970 ? (cost 380$ each) = 4560$ < in that i have to build 1 more pc .
B. 3X3 Gtx 780 ? (cost 750$ each) = 6750$
C. 3X3 Gtx 980 ? (cost 630$ each) = 5700$
what will be the best for the price?
im doing high end architecture , and i gonna do this change on the next project we got , the project will be 3500 - 4500 Frames (include Interiors and Exteriors )
please share your experience is High end projects with 9 Gtx cards on 3 pcs would be enough to make 2-3 mins projects in 1 months? (consider i let "Rendering" 1-2 weeks) ?
because from the demo ver for 3ds max , i see that Pmc and PT both kinda slow in interiors....(i use 1 x Gtx 770).
3. Can you please share the way you guys make Landscapes with Octane ? do octane have Proxy ? like VrayProxy?
Noob questions :)

Hi there =) let's try to answer some of Your questions:
1. if You have 3x workstation & You're going to fill them all with GPUs with idea to render using network rendering or separately, You need three StandAlone licences & one plugin for main workstation (nodes need to have only Standalone, while Your main workstation needs to have both).
2. performance depends on card (it's architecture, amount of Cuda cores) & cooling (with better cooling You can get more out of the same GPU, but something like water-cooling is worth only if You have at least 3-4 or more GPUs)
p.s. 780 6GB could be bought for around 300EU (400-450$ USD) they would hit 80 each, with extra water block & proper loop You're looking close to 100 in terms of Octane Bench. 980 gives around 100 (120 under water), while 980Ti depending on cooler 120-130 (140-150 under water) - for more performance data take a look at menu > Recources > OctaneBench.
Speed depends very much on optimisations & other things..like obviously from Your setup - for instance 770 is around 60 in terms of OctaneBench, while, let's say 9x 780 can give You up 800-900.. so..~12-15X more.. everything what You render now in 1 Hour would take You 4-5minutes =)
to say if it's enough fast for Your turnaround is difficult because it depends on quality level, mix of interior/exterior, resolution, etc.. - but think it's possible. Just keep in mind closed scenes for any unbiased engine is hard to deal with & if You need to make sure..better start proper testing on Your own to make sure.
3. Yeah, Octane Render has instances & in 3ds max You can pair that functionality with forest pro.. or if You use Standalone, You can get Phantom Scatter from Guus Thissen (program cost like 30$, I think & let's You to generate CSV data, input file for OctaneRender Standalone =)
feel free to ask anything more =)
