I am somewhat new to Octane in Poser, so please bear with me. :)

I am creating a lab scene with lots of glassware. First had the problem that the glass was invisible but with some research in this forum I was able to change the material settings of the glass objects so I got really nice and realistic looking glass.

However: What I am missing is the reflections from the lamps in the scene on the glass.

I am guessing that this is just another parameter setting that I'm missing.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

regards,

Hi - it's a bit hard to determine without knowing your render settings. Could you post a screenshot of your Kernel settings, and a shot of the render.

Thanks

Where are the reflections missing from pls?

You only have 2 bounces set in the Kernel - try increasing those, or using the Path Tracing kernel.

I have two Poser lights, one right and one left behind from the camera position.

In the Poser preview window I get correct reflections of the lights on the glass.

But it seems to me that Octane does not recognize the lights as a reflection source.

I tried a higher specular depth (that's what you meant with bounces?) with Direct Lightning kernel, but no light reflections appeared.

Same with Path Tracing. For me it seems that the Poser lights do light the scene but are not visible themselves to create specularity.

I created light props from Poser lights via the script and had to tweak the brightness of the psoer lights extensively (down to nearly 1%) and created light props again. That seemed to help somewhat but still the reflections on the glass were way too bright (looks like hotpixels but hotpixel reduction did not help). and the scene lost the real look.

But I guess that is the way to do this?

Is there a way to create some kind of "fake lamp reflections"? So the light props crate no light but reflections on the glassware?

Thanks again for any help.

It is not possible to tell if the lights are reflecting in your Octane render or not - because the camera is so far from the glass.

For your emitter material - make sure the Opacity is set to 1, so that there is something to reflect. And what material have you used for the glass? Is it a Specular material? If so, make sure Reflection is white (255/255/255), and the Index is 1.3-1.4. Set the roughness to something very low (like 0.0001).

Regarding hotpixels, pls see the Octane Notes in my signature

Another question: If I move the camera farther away I loose the light reflections. Why is that so?

Thanks again.
