Hi,

i read that substance were compatible with octane for modo but i doesn't work for me. With modo renderer no problem everything is good but in octane nothing, just the blank material...

Did i forgot to make something special ?
How to make a substance work with octane without having to bake to disk everytime ?

I'm using the last version of substance for modo 901 coming directly from allegorithmic's forum and substances coming from Designer version 5

Hi - at the moment you need to bake out the substance designer textures to file (png, tif, etc), and then use those files in your Octane scene. I have tried a few times to directly read the bitmap info from the substance Modo Shader Tree items, but it is not trivial - but I hope to implement it at some point.

Hi Paul,

Have you had a chance to look into this at all? I just upgraded to SD 5.3 and thought I would ask.

Thanks

I have had a chance to look at this again - but the outcome again was that it is either very complex, or not possible with the current Modo API. I will need to put it on hold until the the Octane 3 and Modo Render Cache features are fully implemented, then I will come back to Substance Designer support. Probably an easy path to getting this supported would be if the Substance Designer for Modo plugin ofer an option to automatically save the textures to a file.

Thank you for the update.

I thought SD can bake images out for diffuse, specular, metallic, etc...

I can use those images, can I not?

Yes - you can use those bake images. You can probably come up with some python to automatically bake all Substance images in the scene.

Thanks Paul. I'll do some testing on my side and look forward to your work on the Octane 3 launch. Going to assume that will be a work in progress for a while but will watch the progress.

Take care.
