Hey Octane community,
Im new to the Ocatane render, and have a question on hardware
Im thinking of purchasing the following for a new work set up, would this configuration work with Octane?
Mac Pro 2015
2.7GHz 12-core with 30MB of L3 cache
16GB (4x4GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM
any advice would be helpful, I have thought about a hackentosh set up but I have limited knowledge in building a computer. I'm a freelance motion designer and work remotely so I need something reliable and thats why im leaning towards a mac pro.
Thanks in advance.
2015 Mac Pro work with Octane?
hi there, the current one with the FirePro D700 GPU is not cuda-enabled hence it will not work with Octane. Rebuilding the mac is quite a road trip hopefully it will turn out well. It also depends on what model you have. I don't have much experience with tinkering with macs, but this discussion among mac users might offer you some more insight: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=49592&p=245437

Hello!
Until Octane is compatible with openCL (hopefully with Octane3) the 2015 MacPro is not compatible out of the box. You have to buy external Thunderbolt boxes like Akitio's to plug nvidia GPU's for the time being. If you're in a hurry, I would advise you to buy either a PC or an old "big and tall" macPro. You can fit PC nvidia GPU's in it quite easily.
Or just wait a few months for OpenCL compatibility.
