Hi there,

I just added a sphere to my scene with a diffuse material on it. All the channels are off except the emission channel - I'm using it to light a portion of my scene.

As soon as I added it, all the area lights stopped working... the day light infinite light is still working.... but it is the only light now in operation... Just because of an object with an emission...??

...any idea why this should occur? :?

I'm using direct lighting but it also occurs in PT and pmc.

I've attached a scene file.

Turn off the sphere to see the area light working and then turn it back on to see the area light turn off

Thanks,
L.

It's related with your light samples. There is nothing that not working, just you need to adjust the balance of samples.

Here is a good video from to explain how works
